Strong Organizations - Strong Youth

OUR COMMITMENT

Great Lakes Center for Youth Development (GLCYD) is committed to strengthening the youth environment in rural communities. GLCYD serves as an intermediary organization in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan providing youth information, technical assistance and training to organizations we engage in improvement and learning. We work to build the capacity of our communities' organizations - nonprofits and schools - so they can provide opportunities, services, and supports youth need to grow up healthy, competent, and caring. We promote a strength-based approach to youth development and strive for excellence in all we do.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Through consultation and innovative program development, GLCYD (also called the Center), helps organizations identify opportunities to create a more sustainable and healthy youth environment. We provide a variety of the information, services and training that can make a difference in your community today and tomorrow.

INFORMATION SERVICES

Our efforts in gathering and identifying youth information are designed to strengthen understanding of the youth environment and help maximize youth development resources.

ONLINE SOURCE FOR YOUTH INFORMATION

Log on to www.soyreport.org for the State of the Youth Report (SOY) and access comprehensive information to help you design programs, write proposals, and explore youth issues. Through interpretation of local and national information, the SOY presents a concise picture of the “State of our Youth.”

The SOY includes demographic information, asset survey results, state and national comparisons, data interpretation, and “promising practice” highlights. The SOY is also available online through the GLCYD website at www.glcyd.org.

MEASURING YOUTH ASSETS

In partnership with our schools, GLCYD uses the Search Institute’s Profiles of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors survey to measure the 40 Developmental Assets in our youth population. The 40 Assets are the “building blocks” or strengths that all young people need to have in their lives. We can help organizations and communities integrate the assets into programs and services, communicate survey results, and develop more asset-building opportunities.

DEVELOPING SURVEYS
Surveys are a significant tool for achieving deeper insights about young people and the communities they live in. They are often used in program design and evaluation. GLCYD can help your organization develop or identify surveys to meet your information needs. Our staff can assist you throughout all phases of the process and provide a comprehensive final analysis.
