POSITION: Program Associate

Great Lakes Center for Youth Development, located in Marquette, Michigan seeks a Program Associate. Our organization seeks a motivated staff member for this newly created position. The individual will be responsible for supporting critical organizational priorities.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to serve as a catalyst to inspire communities to promote healthy youth development in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. As an intermediary organization, we advocate for a positive youth environment and support organizations by providing expertise and learning opportunities.

Great Lakes Center for Youth Development is committed to helping communities in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan build healthy youth environments by strengthening youth-serving organizations and other nonprofits. As an intermediary organization, we work with the organizations that serve youth and families versus providing direct service to youth and families. Through information, consultation, and innovative program development, GLCYD (also called the Center) helps organizations become more sustainable and able to better serve youth and families. Areas in which we provide technical assistance and training include nonprofit management, youth development, marketing, board development, strategic planning, and fund development. The Center promotes the 40 Developmental Assets™, developed by the Search Institute, as a positive youth development framework. The Center engages in community efforts to enhance the youth environment such as creating the U.P. Volunteer Network, strengthening the U.P. Children's Coalition, and building youth assets.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the promotion and expansion of the Center's board development product—BoardConnect® U.P.
  • Promote the survey product, work with clients, assist staff with ongoing surveys
  • Support fund development efforts
  • Work with the Vice President to expand the membership program
  • Assist the Director of Marketing and Communications with preparing marketing materials

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree and one-two years' relevant experience are required. It is recommended the candidate have a degree in a relevant field (communications, marketing, nonprofit management, etc.) and one-two years' experience working in the nonprofit sector.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to motivate people and demonstrate passion and energy for youth development
  • Ability to work as a contributing team member in cooperative, collaborative, and diplomatic ways to achieve impact
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports
  • Ability to design, implement, and manage programs
  • Capacity to recruit and work with customers; identify their needs; and, provide assistance to improve their organization's ability to positively impact youth
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple ongoing projects
  • Ability to effectively speak in public, design presentations, and communicate in writing
  • Possess a strong interest in the mission of GLCYD

The Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan is well known for its pristine beauty and quality of life offerings. The city of Marquette, located on the south shore of Lake Superior, has been nationally recognized for its efforts to provide one of the best places for young people to live and grow up and for its economic development efforts. Marquette is also the home of Northern Michigan University and Marquette General Health System Regional Medical Center. We are a "four seasons" location which allows us to enjoy a variety of activities including downhill and cross country skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, swimming, and hiking.

SALARY RANGE/BENEFITS

The salary range is $25,000 - $40,000. Benefits include four weeks paid vacation; paid holidays and sick leave; health/dental and other insurances; flexible spending account, and 401(k) plan.
