What Our Board Members are Saying!

"I've been a board member of Great Lakes Center for Youth Development for several years, but I am continually amazed at the role that non-profit organizations play in fostering the positive development of our area youth. Recently, in a site visit to Alger Parks and Recreation in Munising, I learned how much this organization does for the community with only two staff members and a very modest budget. Programs include a very popular summer day camp, soccer, flag football, Little League, tennis, and golf, while they also sponsor family and adult activities such as winter outdoor events, the "Concert in the Park" series and senior aerobics. I'm proud to be a board member of the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development because we provide expertise, training and learning opportunities for nonprofits throughout the U.P. doing incredible work like Alger Parks and Recreation." "The Great Lakes Center for Youth Development offers technical assistance to non-profit organizations across the Upper Peninsula. Through board development, strategic planning and training to meet specific organizational needs, we work to strengthen U.P. non-profits. I believe that they are then in a better position to help their communities be a place where young people are valued and have opportunities to thrive." Nancy Victorson, Newberry, MI |

"The Great Lakes Center for Youth Development shines a spotlight on youth development across the Upper Peninsula. To promote a positive change process, the Center challenges and supports communities in their efforts to improve youth outcomes. One of our key goals is to affect a myriad of choices made by individuals and organizations that will ultimately change the community climate. As a Board Member, I serve because I believe that united with and guided by this strong organization, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our youth." Betsy Wesselhoft, Ironwood, MI |
"GLCYD’s efforts to promote the 40 developmental assets is extremely important to me. By measuring a community’s success at providing youth with support and opportunities, GLCYD is able to provide a fuller and accurate picture of youth in the U.P. Parents, schools and communities can take this information and create local action plans focused on helping young people develop in healthy, positive ways. This is so critical."
