Learning with a Purpose: Service-Learning 101

This workshop is an introduction to the fundamentals of academic service-learning.
Participants will:
· Define academic service-learning
· Engage in describing their own situations
· Learn how to create links with community agencies
· Develop reflective thinking opportunities for students to link course
content to service-learning experiences
· Discuss the development of a sustainable infrastructure for academic
service-learning

Recruiting Volunteers in Low-Income Neighborhoods

examples, knowledge, and tools. This capacity-building workshop is designed
for organizations developing volunteers in low-income communities. Participants
will:
· Learn steps to effectively recruit and place volunteers
· Develop the ability to apply those steps
· Plan improvements for recruitment and placement

Campus Community Summit

Michigan Campus Compact promotes the education and commitment
of college students to be civically engaged citizens, through community
service, service-learning and civic engagement. Recognizing the need
for higher education and community members to work together, this summit
is designed to help participants discover, design and foster partnerships
with mutual benefits. Plan to attend in teams of two or more representing
at least one community nonprofit and one higher education partner.

Data Management for Fundraising
(Michigan Works Service Center, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Cost: No charge)
This educational session will concentrate on technological tools available
to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of fundraising. Participants
will learn the difference between software and online solutions and
what is best for them, options for small, medium, and large operations,
and what types of solutions are available. The session will also include
a hands-on demonstration using the eTapestry solution.

Women & Philanthropy Roundtable

Women make up 53% of the workforce, constitute 27% of business owners
and are pivotal players in the trillion dollar intergenerational transfer
of wealth underway in the United States. Successful non-profit donor
development cannot ignore the special giving interests and habits of
women. This discussion is sponsored by Girl Scouts of Peninsula Waters
and the Marquette Community Foundation. It will be a "warm-up"
for a one-day conference on "Women and Philanthropy" to be
held in Marquette next May.
