U.P. Communities Building Healthy Youth
There are many communities across the U.P. building assets in youth – each has unique and varied resources and programs. This workshop will include a panel of U.P. community representatives who will share how their communities are focusing on positive youth development. In this interactive session, participants will learn about other programs, hear new ideas, and learn about powerful ways to reach youth.

Recruiting & Training Your Board
Serving on a board is an important, rewarding, and sometimes difficult experience. Effective board recruiting and training are fundamental to the long-term success of every nonprofit organization. This session will introduce a variety of services and resources that can help your organization develop a strong and active board.

When recruiting, selecting, staffing, and hiring, it is good business practice to begin with the end in mind! Retention of your best employees starts with your recruiting, staffing and hiring strategies, policies and procedures. Sometimes the simplest mistakes can have a tremendous effect on nonprofit budgets. Discover tips on key recruiting, testing, selection, and staffing practices in this workshop.

Principles & Practices: A Tool for Organizational Development
Principles & Practices for Nonprofit Excellence in Michigan provides the opportunity for nonprofits to become more aware of policies and procedures they can put into place to be more effective and accountable. Participants will be introduced to the ten guiding principles and more than 100 recommended practices. A “must” for staff and board members alike!

Hot Topics in Nonprofit Accountability
This workshop will cover critical areas of accountability that boards – and, by delegation, staff – are facing, with a focus on the financial side. Presented as a “landscape overview,” participants will learn about pressures and influences on accountability, and explore areas at the nonprofit sector’s forefront, such as compensation, audits, financial reporting, and financial controls.

Using Technology in Nonprofits
Attendees will discover the “hows” and “whys” of technology planning, including TechAtlas.org, a free web-based tool that guides users though assessing current needs, prioritizing projects, and obtaining funding for those projects. Learn about online resources to help save money as well as get the most out of the equipment you have. The workshop content is not technical, but instead is focused on business decision making about technology.
