#GivingTuesday 2017 in the UP

#GivingTuesday 2017 in the UP

Grow & Lead: Community and Youth Development has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

As a capacity building agency, Grow & Lead exists to help nonprofits get the resources they need to be successful. The #GivingTuesday in the U.P. hub was born in 2016 to connect people interested in giving to #GivingTuesday projects in communities across the Upper Peninsula.

Organizations participating in #GivingTuesday include:

  • Northern Michigan University and the NMU Foundation
  • Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum
  • Friends of the Braumart
  • Room at the Inn
  • Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy
  • STAR Children’s Bereavement Services
  • Great Lakes Recovery Centers
  • Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp
  • Superior Health Foundation
  • Lake Superior Theater
  • Messiah Lutheran Church
  • Houghton-Keweenaw 4-H

Nonprofits are vital to the Upper Peninsula. They fill the gaps in services that our residents need. I encourage everyone to give their time, talent or treasure to an organization that addresses a cause that you are passionate about. The U.P. has a great culture of giving. I’m excited to see the results of #GivingTuesday.
