Since 1994, the Excellence in Education Week program has awarded over $2 million in academic scholarships and professional development awards to students and educators in Marquette and Alger counties. With a $1 million lead gift from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in 1998, endowments were created in each county and matched with gifts from community members. Every year, the top five percent of graduating seniors receive a $1,500 scholarship to continue their post-secondary education, while 25 professional development awards of $500 each are awarded to educators to further academic training or enhance classroom activities.
